Bearing Dreams is a suspended swing installation that explores the emotional tension between comfort and structural rigidity. The soft plush teddy bears and thrifted faux fur fabric juxtapose with rigid and industrial acrylic glass and braided polypropylene nylon rope to examine how childhood familiarity is reframed through systems of restraint posed in adulthood. Bearing Dreams is constructed from contrasting materials to create a dialogue between emotional memory and modern minimalistic design. Drilling holes through the acrylic surface for the rope to fit through to support the structure became a metaphor for embedding softness in a rigid material. The softness of Bearing Dreams consists of plush teddy bears arranged to play an aestheticized emotional role as the organized collection of these objects forms the cushion.

Bearing Dreams invites viewers to reflect upon childhood memories as one sways back and forth amongst a cloud of teddy bears. The swing provides a secure space that emotionally supports adults as they gently move about their surroundings. The transparent acrylic glass surface and braided polypropylene nylon rope remind us that emotional comfort is often invisible but always there to guide our choices that inform who we are. Ultimately, Bearing Dreams presents how we carry softness into our adult lives and what kind of structural support is necessary to keep our lives intact as we grow older.
